Up in the Air

George Clooney is Ryan Bingham, who is hired to fire people and spends most of his time flying on an aeroplane on his way to do that. He never wants to get married or have children and Natalie (Anna Kendrick, Jessica from Twilight), a young new employee of the company can't understand this.

Anna Kendrick is very believable in this, as is Vera Farmiga as Ryan's love interest. As is George Clooney actually.

I would recommend this. Although the story is not funny in itself, there are some funny moments.

Priscilla: Queen of the Desert (the show)

Absolutely INCREDIBLE!!!!! sequins + mad costumes + ridiculously camp men + Australian accents = something I love. Just brilliant.

It was Ben Richards (the good-looking one from The Bill) ' second show and he must have been sooo nervous but he was sooo good! I was especially loved his voice which I wasn't expecting. Oliver Thornton was hilarious as Felicia (Felicia Jollygoodfellow hahaha) and his on-stage relationship with Don Gallagher as Bernadette was very entertaining as they were always at each other's throats!

Priscilla (the bus) cleverly served as the scenery for most of the show, and I particularly enjoyed it when the three main characters 'painted' it.

I waited by the stage door afterwards and I noticed after he'd gone that Oliver Thornton came out of the theatre without anyone noticing as he looks really different without all the makeup on!

The music is the best part though. Loads of disco classics that get your toes tapping. I was quite surprised (and worried) that I knew virtually all of them!

I definitely recommend this, it's a really fun night out and many other people (including critics) have agreed that it's fantastic.

Fantastic Mr Fox - the film

Fantastic Mr Fox is quite a well-known story by Roald Dahl, about a family of foxes trying to outsmart three farmers, Boggis and Bunce and Bean, one fat, on short, one lean, these horrible crooks, so different in looks, were nonetheless equally mean.

This film is animated and voices include George Clooney as Mr Fox, Meryl Streep as Mrs Fox, Michael Gambon as Bean, and Owen Wilson as a P.E. coach.

I love the story, so perhaps expected a bit too much from this film. It was good, but I didn't like how they changed some details of the story.

I think that this film is probably one for younger children, but I did enjoy it.

My Sister's Keeper - the book

This book is brilliant. It is by Jodie Picoult and is about ethical issues surrounding things like organ donation and who has authority to make particular decisions regarding this. The story is centred around Sara and Brian, and their three children: Jesse, 18, Kate, 16, and Anna, 13 (although they are not always these ages as the story flashes back to the past to explain certain points).

Kate has had a rare type of leukeumia since she was two years old, and Anna was conceived in a special way, so that she would be the perfect donor for Kate, as no-one else in the family was a genetic match. Ever since Anna was small, she has had to donate lymphocytes, bone marrow, and more. But now her mum is asking her to donate a kidney to Kate. This could endanger both of their lives. So Anna decides to sue her parents for the right to her own body.

The emotion conveyed in this book through every character is very easy to empathise with, and because of this, it is extremely difficult for the reader to come to a conclusion about who and what is right. The ending is very unexpected and it left me thinking about it after I had finished the book.

I really recommend this and I am definitely going to watch the film to see if it's anywhere near as good as the book.

Star Trek (the 2008 film)

Last night I watched Star Trek avec ma famille. My parents kept talking about how they had watched it as children and that there were famous characters and how much they loved it etc. And to be honest I really did enjoy it.

There are quite a few fisticuffs but violence is the sort of thing you'd expect. At times I found some details a little confusing, but the story is pretty easy to follow.

I also thought it was well cast and I enjoyed Simon Pegg's performance as 'Scotty' and his less than brilliant Scottish accent!

I would recommend this but it is not for anyone who doesn't like sci-fi.

Doctor Who

So, sadly we've had to let (the lovely and very talented) David Tennant go. He has been replaced by 27 year old Matt Smith, who, we thought, was bound to be rubbish and not fill David's (I like to think we're on a first name basis) shoes at all.

But here's a surprise, which I should not be very surprised about: the casting people really do know how to do their job. Matt (I like to think the same about him) is brilliant!! Very funny, does not overdo it, but can also be sincere.

Amy Pond (played by Karen Gillan) however, is another story. I'm sure some people love her, and I know it's early days so she might grow on me, but I just find her irritating. I think it's the pouting, her insisting on wearing a skirt (attire not exactly suitable for running away from aliens) and her over-acting that does it. I'm still gonna watch it though...

Also, unfortunately Russell T. Davies (Head Writer) also left so Stephen Moffat took over. I think we're in for a much scarier ride this time as he wrote episodes that include the Weeping Angels, the Clockwork Droids, and the episode 'Silence in the Library'.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Every teenager should watch this (but it's suitable for anyone). It's hilarious and such a good fun to watch. It's about a boy called Ferris Bueller who decides to take a day off school, and all the things he does in the space of a single day. His high school principal smells a rat though and decides to catch Bueller in the act of bunking.

I really recommend this film and hope to watch it again soon.
